I voted in favour of this report because it sheds light on Croatia’s progress in terms of completing the procedures for accession to the European Union. If Zagreb continues on the path of reform as it has done in recent years, there is a very good chance that negotiations will already be completed by June.
Now, however, the greatest challenge seems to be to convince local people that EU membership will bring real benefits to their country, since a recent official Eurobarometer poll seems to suggest that they believe otherwise. In view of the fact that membership will still be subject to a referendum, we must work to ensure that the Croatians see the major European project as belonging to their history and their future."@en1
