"Two years ago, legislation on car emissions was approved. It is now time for the European Parliament to approve the introduction of CO
limits for new light commercial vehicles. These vehicles are mainly used by companies, including small and medium-sized enterprises, and make up approximately 12% of the vehicles on the road at the moment. Apart from contributing to improved air quality and to achieving the EU climate targets, the vehicles should provide greater fuel savings for the small companies that depend on them. The objectives indicated aim to encourage innovation in the industry. The regulation sets a target of 175 g CO
/km to be implemented by 2014, which should gradually fall to 147 g CO
/km by 2020. The sanctions to be applied if manufacturers fail to comply with this regulation must be scrupulously fulfilled."@en1
