"I fully support this new initiative on Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Dementia is expected to be one of the main challenges for healthcare in the coming years and cooperation between countries to improve prevention, diagnosis and care is vital. The report calls for the raising of awareness surrounding this issue and the need for early recognition of the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. This will aid the early diagnosis of cases and help improve access to treatment. As well as protecting the wellbeing of those suffering from dementia, it is important to raise awareness of carers, who often have to deal with emotional and financial difficulties; the development of action plans to improve the day-to-day situation for carers is another step towards improving the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia."@en1
