"Food security is a central issue to which the European Union must respond effectively. That is why I endorsed the report by my Social Democrat colleague, which supports a strong, responsible CAP that is geared towards young farmers; proposes combating speculation on the agricultural markets and the price volatility that it causes; and reaffirms that the fight against poverty within the EU and worldwide must become a priority, by making food security and access to food a basic human right. The EU must address today’s food challenges and anticipate future difficulties in this area. That is why the idea of creating a targeted global system of food stocks is, in my view, entirely relevant, even though it will not be easy to implement."@en1
