"The report on human rights in the world 2009 and the European Union’s policy on the issue form an extremely important tool to reinforce the role of the European External Action Service (EEAS) with regard to human rights policy. Indeed, these things have always been the hallmark that makes the European Union stand out in the world.
I agree with Mrs Andrikienė when I underline that freedom of religion or belief constitutes, amongst all human rights, an essential and basic right that must be respected, and that conditions related to respect for human rights which feature in the bilateral agreements with non-EU countries need to be enforced more strongly and more effectively. It is therefore right to call on the High Representative to incorporate freedom of religion or belief into EU human rights policy and to give a thorough evaluation of the situation of freedom of religion or belief in the EU annual report on human rights. I am voting in favour of the report by Mrs Andrikienė."@en1
