In supporting these policies, the EU will create new jobs and opportunities in a ‘green’ market, thus encouraging the development of a competitive, safe and sustainable economy. It is crucial to increase public funding with a view to developing energy saving, energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Europe still has to create conditions for more private investment in scientific research, technological development and demonstration in the energy field. I would also like to call attention to the fact that the Eighth Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development has energy security, the fight against climate change and the environment as its priorities.
