"Research makes a fundamental contribution to economic growth, job creation and the creation of clean, sustainable energy. I am in favour of increasing research funding in the European Union as it is vital to set up a European Research Area which will guarantee the highest standards of excellence, effectiveness and efficiency in research in order to attract and retain the best scientists in Europe and promote an innovative European economy based on knowledge and expertise. Europe must invest in research to develop new products and services which will enhance the quality of citizens’ lives. I voted for this framework programme because I believe that it encourages the research community, academia, civil society organisations, companies and the industrial sector to participate in research projects."@en1
