"This regulation lists the third countries whose nationals must be in possession of visas when crossing the Union’s external borders, and those whose nationals are exempt from that requirement. The decision as to whether or not visa requirements should apply to third countries is taken on a case-by-case basis. The aim of the proposal is to abolish visa requirements for citizens of Taiwan. The European Parliament supported the aim of this proposal. It is very important to establish a common immigration policy, while developing trade and economic relations between the European Union and Taiwan. Economically, Taiwan has seen significant growth in recent years, and its income per head of population is currently the highest in the world. Taiwan is also an excellent partner cooperating in the fields of science, investment, new technology, education, culture and tourism. Therefore, lifting the visa requirement for Taiwan will enhance trade and economic relations with the EU."@en1
