"Although I voted in favour of the joint motion for a resolution, I would still like to make the following remark. My support for this resolution is in no way intended as an endorsement of certain extreme comments made during Tuesday afternoon’s debate. Given all the sensitivity that treatment of the issue in question deserves, attempting to compare the returns of Roma with Second World War concentration and extermination camps amounts to trivialising the Holocaust. That is the surest way to stifle the debate. What is needed in this instance is a calm, collected, responsible debate. This comparison smacks either of bad faith or of immaturity. Either way, it does no service to the Roma cause."@en1
