As Liberals, we have a very positive view of free trade agreements, and we believe in their positive effects on the European economy and trade. We are therefore very sceptical about the regional safeguard clauses that the European Parliament wants to include in the agreement as a way of restricting free trade. Instead, we would like to stress the importance of free trade for the development of the EU. In order to enable the EU to be a competitive player within the area of global trade, the European Parliament ought to take action to facilitate, and create opportunities for, trade with the rest of the world through free trade agreements without restrictions."@en1
