lpv:translated text	"First, I would like to support the efforts of the rapporteur, Holger Krahmer, to ensure that the European Union’s environmental protection objectives are fulfilled as consistently as possible. On the other hand, I understand the fears of European governments that consistent fulfilment of the requirements formulated by the European Parliament might, in some cases, complicate the economic situation in their countries. However, a temporary slowdown in economic growth might, under certain circumstances, be an acceptable price to pay for a major environmental improvement for citizens in heavily polluted regions. We must therefore, in a sensitive but vigorous way, continue with gradual pressure for the modernisation of production technologies aimed at reducing industrial emissions and leading to constructive dialogue with representatives of industry concerning the incorporation of this philosophy into their development plans."@en1
