"Madam President, I would like to direct a personal note of praise to Estonia. Europe and the euro are currently facing severe problems. Difficult times separate the wheat from the chaff. Here we can see the difference between those who really believe in Europe and want to contribute to a stronger EU, like Estonia, and those who nervously stand on the sideline waiting to see how things turn out, like my home country Sweden, the President’s home country the United Kingdom, and Denmark.
Let us for a moment assume that the EU’s forefathers had stood and waited in the same way when it all began: where would Europe be today then? It is in times of crisis that the EU develops and demonstrates its strength to become a more unified and stronger Europe. The euro is the most visible symbol of a united Europe. All credit to Estonia."@en1
