lpv:translated text	"The European Parliament is once more called upon to give an opinion on a national issue, that is, the threats to freedom of expression in Italy. The Luxembourg members of the PPE group are of the opinion that, as a matter of principle, the European Parliament should not interfere in a conflict of interest, genuine or not, in a Member State. Parliament should not demand European legislative measures each time a political or legal issue cannot be resolved satisfactorily in the eyes of all the parties concerned in a given Member State. This is why we have voted against any attempt to legislate at the European level on a problem of conflicting interests in a specific Member State. This being the case, we are in favour of a genuine European debate on the press and the problematic mergers that can exist in this area. This debate should not focus on one specific Member State but address the issue in an objective and consistent way for the whole of the EU, so that the solutions to these problems can be based on existing Community legislation."@en1
