"− I voted to keep the opt-out as my priority is, first and foremost, to protect West Midlands jobs and ensure that my region retains a competitive edge.
I have always worked hard to protect workers but I do not feel that restricting people’s choices is the best way to achieve this. I have spoken to many workers and SME owners for whom the downturn is causing job losses and business failures; they have asked me to retain their choice. In my experience, restricting peoples’ overtime only favours those that can afford to weather the storm and it is important that we give people the means to support their families. There are safeguards in place in the common position to ensure that workers are not being exploited."@en1
