"Mr President, the construction of the Nord Stream pipeline could result in interference in arms dumps from the last war. In the sea there are around 40 000-60 000 MT of chemical weapons and the exact location of these weapons is unknown. Interfering with these dumps could result in an enormous ecological disaster.
I supported this report because I agree with the rapporteur that it is scandalous that a cross-border project of such a far-reaching nature should be treated as a bilateral issue between Russia and Germany. Protection of the Baltic and the populations of Baltic countries should be one of the EU’s main priorities."@en1
