"Mr President, the introduction of a principle such as equal treatment between persons irrespective of racial or ethnic origin, as also irrespective of their skin colour, creed or religion, generally involves ongoing and unceasing activity. Any step of progress towards the goal can be counted as a great success. We cannot expect to change the attitudes of everyone overnight, that everyone should rid themselves of their natural condition, which is to improve their lives and fight against whatever could potentially endanger that improvement. However, we must do everything to remove legal, sociological and economic barriers, provide education, create conditions for harmonious coexistence and change our negative attitudes towards other people, whatever the differences between us. Finally, I would like to say that I absolutely do not agree with the statement made by Mr Vanhecke regarding attitudes."@en1
