"Madam President, the proposal for a directive we are debating promotes uncertainty, adaptation to easy dismissal and retraining and recruitment in other work on uncertain terms, on the basis of the unilateral needs of the market, rather than full, permanent, regulated work with rights. Nonetheless, the European Commission has re-tabled the proposal, playing a political game at the expense of the citizens in order to secure its approval.
The proposal is intended to remove what it considers to be obstacles in relation both to free movement between Member States and mobility within a Member State, obstacles that are created by certain provisions in the supplementary pension systems. These obstacles relate to the terms on which pension rights are acquired, the terms on which dormant pension rights are retained and the portability of fundamental rights. All these are, of course, being dumbed down. That is why, unfortunately, we shall not be supporting this proposal."@en1
