"Mr President, this is a golden opportunity to overcome Europessimism by showing citizens the added value of our sovereign states sharing power to address the global problem of climate change, about which they are all seriously concerned. However, decisions must be made transparently and democratically so that we can see who is pressing to have decisions deferred. Later decisions will be too late on this issue.
We must pool our resources, adopt common rules and regulations and the necessary penalties to guarantee implementation. Hard political decisions must be made on taxation, renewable energy, fuel efficiency and cleaner technologies that will revolutionise our industries and our consumption. Indeed, why not benchmark the national infrastructure programmes which in many cases the European Union is funding? I would also argue that we must beware false prophets, like the nuclear industry, which claim to be the answer to this problem."@en1
