I know of your personal commitment to this issue, but I met with Zimbabwean and South African AIDS activists at the weekend and the question they asked me, which was difficult to answer, was whether, in your opinion, in relation to the take-up of anti-retrovirals as well as all the other measures you announced, the EU is making a significant impact on the AIDS pandemic. Is it actually making a difference? My worry is that in Zimbabwe we are clearly losing the fight because of the special circumstances there. But they were also telling me that the situation is still extremely serious in South Africa."@en1
