".
We are deeply alarmed at the stance adopted by the majority in Parliament as regards the increased international tension. Their stance glosses over the deeply provocative atmosphere surrounding the publication of the cartoons, of which the dangerous developments are ample evidence.
It is disgraceful to seek to justify the USA’s increasing interventionism in the Middle East by concocting an atmosphere of a clash of civilisations. Similarly alarming is the fact that the major powers in the EU are moving closer to the ambitions of the USA in the region. It should not be forgotten that the initiative to block a negotiated solution under the aegis of the International Atomic Energy Agency on Iran came from Germany, France and the United Kingdom, an objective long supported by the USA.
Unlike what some would have you believe, it is the USA and its allies, especially Israel, that have threatened peace and perpetrated war, aggression and occupation. They are the ones that occupy Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine, and have countless bases and thousands of troops stationed in the region. It is therefore crucial to take action to reverse the current cycle of incitement to violence, to promote détente in international relations and to protect peace."@en1
