"Commissioner, progress has indeed been made, at least in terms of the call that has been made for human rights to be respected in the country formerly known as Burma. I do, however, have a question, or rather a request and a proposal, for the European Commission. It is my belief that the Commission should monitor the situation on an ongoing basis, naturally with Parliament’s help. Truly international pressure, brought to bear by Europe as well as Asia, is our only hope of achieving any concrete results. I would urge the European Commission to take an ongoing interest in this issue."@en1
