"I should like to give a brief explanation of my vote on the Sjöstedt report on the management of waste from extractive industries. In my opinion, mining would become significantly more expensive for the companies operating in this industry if we were to adopt the draft report. This would result in a rise in the cost of constructing public networks, such as roads and railways, and all other public buildings in which aggregates are used. There would also be a dramatic increase in state spending on the monitoring of materials that have been extracted but not yet used. The end result of all this would be a heavier burden on taxpayers throughout the European Union, without anything positive being achieved. It was for this reason that I voted against the majority of the amendments."@en1
