"With reference to Paragraph 44; the world’s most important environmental problem is global warming. The EU has signed up to the Kyoto Protocol, the main aim of which is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The expansion of nuclear power constitutes one of the most important means of reducing these. I therefore wish to support EU research into nuclear power in all its aspects. I do not, however, support the EU’s defence research. This is something about which countries must decide individually or about which they must reach agreements with each other."@en1
