"Question No 7 by Seán Ó Neachtain , which has been taken over by Brian Crowley ():
On 1 May 2004, the number of official languages of the Union will pass from 11 to 20, and this will involve a modification of Council Regulation 1/1958. Gaeilge, while a Treaty language under Article 314, is not listed under secondary legislation as an official language. Can the Council confirm that the procedure for granting the status of official language to Gaeilge is for an application to this effect to be made by the Irish Government, and can the Council outline the procedure that would follow such an application? Finally, will the Council state whether there are factors which would prevent such an application from being successful?"@en1
