Today we begin the European twenty-first century. The last century in Europe was marked by war in its first half and division into East and West in its second. That Europe is put behind us as we vote today to reunite our continent in peace, democracy and prosperity. Ten new flags appeared in our Chamber today. I look forward to welcoming our new colleagues from these countries to our Parliament next month so that we can begin building together the Europe our 500 million citizens deserve."@en1
