"Mr President, last Thursday, I was taking part in a television programme in Milan. The Cardinal of Milan, His Excellency Dionigi Tettamanzi, from the city of Genoa, had stated the day before that we must open our arms to the immigrants who come to Europe, particularly, to Milan, and I am afraid that he received abusive telephone calls during the programme from disgruntled
people who did not agree with this recommendation. Therefore, voting for better immigration, I thought of what Mr Vatanen said to me, personally, a few days ago: ‘What if we had been born in Senegal? What if we had been born in one of the countries from which these people are forced to emigrate to come to Europe and make a living?’."@en1
