"Question No 12 by Alexandros Alavanos ():
The President of the USA has made it clear by his statements that the USA will not observe the Kyoto international treaty, which requires the country to reduce its emissions of greenhouse gases, on the grounds that the Treaty is not in the economic interests of the USA. The verbal reactions of European leaders to the statements by Bush do not constitute a policy. What measures is the Council considering in response to the cynical attitude of the USA which is sabotaging the international treaty? Is the possibility of economic sanctions under consideration?"@en1
