I welcome the directive’s objective, namely a drastic reduction in air pollution, with open arms, as well as the fact that we are setting a new deadline for 2020. As Mrs Jackson observed a moment ago, my objection pertained to the table in Annex 1, in particular the calculation method and the implications thereof for Member States with a small surface area and high population density. Commissioner, I assume that, as you already stated in the debate at first reading, we can expect a fairer distribution of the burden, also for small Member States, during the review in 2004. That is why I will be voting against Amendment No 10 which has again included the Commission’s old table in Annex 1."@en1
