It is paramount that any new development of a system of child protection within the EU should not impede the implementation of the 1996 Convention. Given that certain questions of competence in this field have been raised at EU level, can the Commission give assurances that Member States may proceed to ratify the Hague Convention of 19 October 1996 on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Cooperation in respect of ‘parental responsibility and measures for the protection of children’ without delay?"@en1
