"Mr President, I voted against the Lambert report because the Council of the European Union does not actually intend to regulate the important matter of the movement of workers who need to make sure that they do not lose any of their pensions.
For example, Italy refuses to pay old-age and invalidity pensions to European Union citizens who move to other States of the Union. However, it allows the citizens of non-Community countries who come to Italy to cash their pension contributions when they leave, after which they can come back and claim the same old-age and invalidity pensions and helplessness allowances which are denied to Italian citizens who move to other States of the European Union. It is high time that the issue of European Union citizens' pensions was dealt with properly."@en1
