"Question No 17 by Olivier Dupuis ():
Over the last few days, a number of media have carried reports that one Member State of the European Union is currently acting as a mediator in an effort to find a ‘way out’ from the serious situation in Serbia. Those media allege that, together with other members of the international community, that Member State is working on a scenario whereby Mr Milosevic and his family would be granted exile and protection, i.e. immunity from prosecution by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, in exchange for his giving up power.
Does not the Council feel that such a scenario, if it ever became reality, would constitute a complete Uturn in the policy pursued hitherto by the European Union against persons indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia? Does it not also feel that a U-turn of this nature would have serious consequences for the credibility of the future International Criminal Court?"@en1
