Triples with object I voted in favour of this report. The file concerns opening of enhanced cooperation between 17 Member States to define rules applicable for jurisdiction, applicable law and recognition and enforcement of decisions for international couples. The content of any agreement has not been agreed yet, however the participating countries have stated that any rules will not seek to change the content of family law applicable in each of the participating Member States, nor affect their right to define what is considered as a registered partnership or the right to gay marriage. The agreement merely hopes to set out rules governing procedural rights in case of a conflict between jurisdictions. It was disappointing that Ireland and Britain have opted out as it is conflicts such as these which can cause unnecessary delays which led to obstructions and excessive legal costs.
