"I am looking at the image of a destroyed home in Nusaybin in Turkish Kurdistan. This house belongs to the mother of a Kurdish university student now resident in my Manchester constituency. The house was recently destroyed for the second time by the Turkish State, along with the homes of seven other relatives all destroyed first in 1989 and again in 2017.
Many people have lost their lives as well as their homes, killed by the Turkish military. The Kurdish issue has not been settled in Turkey and never will be whilst Erdogan’s fascist dictatorship continues to wage war against its own people, arresting and jailing thousands of educators, artists, trade unionists, journalists, civil society activists, public officials and democratically elected HDP politicians.
Last month, I joined an EU-Turkey Civic Commission international delegation, with amongst other things, the purpose of visiting Abdullah Öcalan, the Kurdish leader imprisoned in appalling conditions on İmralı island since 1999 …"@en1
