"Madam President, Commissioners, just like the customs union and the single market, the UK Government is being incredibly silent on the issue of the internal energy market. Today’s Clean Energy Package highlights that the EU is leading the way when it comes to promoting renewable energy, making our buildings more energy efficient, decarbonising our economy and fighting energy poverty. However, I believe that we can be more ambitious, especially in terms of energy efficiency.
It is paramount that the UK remains within the internal energy market, and that we don’t listen to the usual climate change denial claptrap of UKIP. Outside the internal energy market, the UK will lag behind its 27 neighbours. Not only is that bad for the environment, but it is bad for our industries and the sustainable green jobs of the future. Energy is not a commodity. It is a basic social right. So what is your vision, Theresa May? Is it a United Kingdom that turns its back on the climate, or a leader promoting jobs alongside our neighbours?"@en1
