"A Uachtaráin, vótáil mé le mo ghrúpa sna vótaí go léir sa tuarascáil seo agus glacadh leis le móramh mór.
The situation in Syria continues to represent an area of grave concern for all of us here in the European Union. Faced with escalating hostilities and civilian casualties, I obviously voted for this motion for a solution. It is an outright condemnation of such activities. The role of Russia is deeply worrying, and indeed the role of Turkey is an area which we must also seriously explore, as their support of opposition groups gives rise to warranted concerns as to the likelihood of a lasting political settlement.
Furthermore, I am deeply sorry to learn of an increase in supposed chemical gas attacks being carried out against civilians. The humanitarian aspect of this conflict must henceforth guide our engagement with Syria. Along with my colleagues in the PPE Group, I would urge participants in the Syria Support Group to continue their good work in the crucial negotiations as we endeavour to move towards a stable truce in this most troubled part of the world."@en1
