"Mr President, firstly I want to say that I supported this proposal and I would like to compliment my Irish and EPP colleague, Brian Hayes, the rapporteur, who did an excellent job on this report. His belief that the directive would promote the development of safe and adequate occupational pension provision systems across the Member States is correct.
There is no doubt that the ensuing innovation and good governance will contribute towards ensuring sufficient retirement provisions for all, which they need and deserve. This report outlines the ways and means by which pension schemes may move to another Member State so that the funds can get a better return for their beneficiaries. From an Irish perspective, I can appreciate the number of citizens that the directive stands to benefit, given the many Irish citizens who work elsewhere within the EU. Such efforts are essential in facilitating the development of occupational retirement savings. I therefore welcome the recommendations offered in this report and congratulate my colleague, Mr Hayes, once again."@en1
