"Madam President, I welcome the creation of a Skills Guarantee as part of a lifelong learning approach and would like to emphasise some elements. We need to prepare learners of all ages and from all backgrounds so that they can be ready for a fast-changing, complex and hyper-connected world, ready for jobs and competences that do not even exist yet. That is why it is key to ensure that learners are equipped with transferable skills, among which media literacy and curiosity, critical and creative thinking and entrepreneurship are key. We must also equip learners with the necessary skills for a more open, sustainable and inclusive society. We therefore need to invest in their social skills, and in particular their intercultural skills. On top of guaranteeing a minimum level of literacy, numeracy and digital skills for all, those are the skills that we must invest in for learners to become not only fit for the labour market, but also true problem—solvers and responsible and active citizens."@en1
