"Mr President, when we are looking at the Growth Survey, we need to be considering its distribution and effect, not just figures. So does the Commission really feel that Member States have policies in place which will reduce inequality? This means dealing with issues such as corporate taxation and the top end of income, tax levels, pay ratios etc. In terms of reducing poverty, part of our 2020 Strategy, what progress does the Commission feel is being made? How many Member States have a genuine living wage policy in place? We know this is not the same as a minimum wage. What recommendations is the Commission making in this area?
The report mentions effective social security and benefits schemes. We recognise that these are essential, but too many of these schemes have no factual basis when we actually look at the amounts paid. So, again, what recommendations are we making? What progress is there? On decent jobs, workers’ participation and the role of trades unions are important, so does the Commission believe that its policies and recommendations on labour market reform are enhancing such participation or threatening it, as is often reported? Lastly, on climate change, does the Commission believe that Member States have really incorporated action on this into their strategies on investment and skills development?"@en1
