"I voted in favour of the report which offers a positive narrative on how the CAP can be a force for employment generation in rural areas, both in farming and beyond. The report addresses the question of falling rates of employment in the primary sector following the advances in intensification of European agriculture. The report also presents a range of tools to stimulate employment beyond agriculture. Importantly, the report points out the role of local, bottom-up initiatives such as the LEADER approach which can galvanise the support of local communities and help orientating public funds where they could be most effective in enhancing entrepreneurship and employment generation. It also emphasises the role of women in rural areas as well as a contribution from non-agricultural sectors, such as forestry and tourism."@en1
