"Madam President, with all due respect to our very hardworking rapporteur, I think this report is a missed opportunity. Rather than really focusing on the concrete recommendations on how CAP could contribution to creating jobs and growth in rural areas, we have ended up with a lengthy, repetitive and inconsistent report which completely lacks a coherent message, and that is reflected in the size of the voting list.
Of course there are positive elements in the report – highlighting the tools available to diversify and add value to agricultural activities, simplifying the CAP for individual farmers, providing better access to services – these are all issues on which I can absolutely agree, but there are so many points lost in this wish list of demands. This was supposed to focus on employment, and yet it talks extensively, with excessive criticism, of intensive farming as a dominant model. What is that? It is not relevant to the core point and it completely loses the core point in a lot of unhelpful wish lists."@en1
