"Madam President, in a digital age we need to make sure that online content and services are accessible to all, and ensure equality of access to the digital world, just as we have endeavoured to do in the physical world.
I would like to thank all my colleagues, especially the rapporteur, for their work on this file. I am pleased that we managed to get a more coherent text and a forward—looking approach, including a pathway to introduce the mobile apps into the scope. It is important that legislation does not unnecessarily become a burden on public sector bodies, which is why we also brought in the ability in certain cases for the on-demand system. It was very important that, where there are complaints, these are actually answered. I would like to thank the Commissioner for that.
In our Group, Helga Stevens MEP has been doing some incredibly impressive work to make sure that Parliament thinks very hard about accessibility in everything we do. I would like to thank the many organisations that helped with their advice on this work, and particularly, from the UK, the RNIB, the organisation for blind people. Thank you so much for your assistance."@en1
