"Mr President, it is pleasant to hear general approval for what has been proposed here for the 2017 budget and rightly so, I think, especially homing in on areas that will make a big difference to people’s lives and promote jobs and growth, such as the Connecting Europe Facility, Erasmus+, Horizon 2020, which is vital of course, Cosme and indeed also, as mentioned just recently, coding and digital skills. I joined those hosting CoderDojo, a group of young people volunteering around Europe who are developing those necessary skills and that obviously is something that is going to be hugely beneficial as we become more digitised as a society.
One other point I would make though. All the good work that the European Union does is often not recognised where it matters most: among citizens. So maybe if we had a line there to counteract populism and promote what the European Union is actually doing, so that citizens will get the real picture and appreciate it, this would be a good idea."@en1
