It is important that the existing mechanisms in place are used effectively to promote better dialogue with Member States and the EU as this will contribute to a more streamlined approach to upholding fundamental rights and the rule of law. In addition, I support the role of the European Parliament in maintaining the debate on the rule of law and fundamental rights across the EU. Myself and other Labour MEPs abstained from the vote, as we believe that efforts should focus on improving existing mechanisms."@en1
