"Mr President, we all know the pain and damage of industrial restructuring. Like the examples of Alstom and Caterpillar, many manufacturers are facing tough and uncertain times across the continent, threatening the livelihoods of millions of working people. Following the decision to leave the EU, this threat is, for British industry, all the more acute than ever before and has been intensified by the threat of the loss of single market access. We need real industrial and trade strategies which provide a clear policy framework and road maps for industrial sectors and the regional economies that support them. While the critical mass of the EU is vital for industrial research and development programs and for fairness in international markets, this can only be achieved with substantial investment in key infrastructure and open dialogue with all stakeholders. We have heard many platitudes, but now we need to see real action in the EU – and especially in the UK – for our manufacturing workforce."@en1
