"Mr President, I supported this proposal, sharing the rapporteur’s belief that policy coherence, with the focus on sustainable agriculture, is central to ending hunger by 2030. Eradicating poverty and hunger are integrally linked to boosting food production, agricultural productivity and rural incomes.
From an Irish perspective, I can appreciate the emphasis placed on local food production and share the believe that agricultural systems worldwide must become more productive and less wasteful. This report outlines the ways and means by which such integrated decision-making processes, at national and regional levels, can adequately address trade—offs – among them agriculture and climate change. We find ourselves at a pivotal stage where the effects of climate change will demand greater collaboration between Member States to recognise and address the role of climate—resilient agriculture and food systems in combating nutrition and security. I therefore supported the recommendations."@en1
