"Mr President, education is a fundamental human right and essential for the exercise of all other human rights. That is why the Committee on Culture and Education has put forward the proposal of education corridors. I am very proud that my group, the Socialists and Democrats, have launched the EDUCA campaign, calling for more international funding to be focused on the education of refugee children and young people, and mobilising universities in Europe and in conflict zones to act on this. A whole generation of refugee children, especially girls and young women, face a bleak future without education. This is also important for all the welcoming countries who will benefit from the economic contribution of educated newcomers. It is a moral humanitarian duty for the European Union, as one of the main welcoming regions and a key player in the international scene, to guarantee that these young people have the opportunity for a brighter future. Education initiatives, including informal education, must support refugee children’s mental health after they have gone through traumatic experiences. It is vital for present and future conflict resolution and peace-building in the region."@en1
