"Madam President, I would first like to say how shameful it is that there appear to be more spectators in the gallery than there are Members in the Chamber. Is it any wonder that the peoples of Europe do not listen to you, when you cannot even be bothered to listen to yourselves? The EU-ACP partnership is based upon near—colonialism. The EU taxpayer will pay EUR 30 billion for the EDF in 2014-2020 in order to ensure that the poorer nations are in its debt and therefore subject to the rapacious greed of big business. This is against all that your European Union is supposed to stand for, and we see the results in the economic partnership agreements, in the fisheries agreements and in the common agricultural policy. If the EU really wants to help the third world, then it should enable those nations to build their own economies and ensure free trade, not just for raw materials in the age-old manner of the colonialists, but also for finished products and goods. As long as we keep pouring in aid for no good outcome, we encourage the cycle of third—world government dependency and keep the poorest the poorest. Democracy, independence and freedom come only when peoples have a safe, solid, sustainable economy. We need to break the cycle of dependency, and giving corrupt governments more and more taxpayers’ money merely encourages more of the same results."@en1
