"Mr President, loopholes in EU legislation and the weakening of collective agreements have led to the exploitation of workers by unscrupulous employers and unfair competition. Too often, such practices have wrongly fuelled local frustration, xenophobia and hatred towards migrant workers, contributing in our case to the Brexit vote. Many of my constituents felt their livelihoods and living standards were being threatened by the undercutting of wages and poor labour rules. It is time to address these loopholes, particularly for posted workers and agency workers. That is why this report is so important and I supported it. It is time to ensure the equal pay for equal work in the same place applies for all workers across Europe. If we do not tackle this issue now, the consequences for the EU could be disastrous in the long term and I fear that it could threaten the very existence of this crucial union."@en1
