"The Swiss people recently voted in a referendum to end the ‘free movement of persons’ (a standard euphemism for unlimited immigration). Consequently, as a sovereign democratic nation state, their will should be respected.
Unlimited immigration is not a requirement of trade, or indeed of free and fair trade. It is a political principle of the European Union, which it seeks to impose upon third countries. I do not believe in that principle, and therefore I cannot support the Protocol which extends this provision to Croatia.
I therefore voted against."@en1
