"I voted with my S&D and EPLP colleagues in favour of this report because it underlines the need for simplification of administrative procedures and improved access to financing of SMEs. There is no doubt that SMEs represent the backbone of our economy, and we must facilitate their ability to operate and trade across Europe. Any strategy on SMEs must include support for cooperatives and alternative business models that have so much potential for a more ethical way of doing business, and can bring more flexibility and accountability to the private sector. We must also ensure that vulnerable excluded groups have access to entrepreneurship education, particularly women and girls, who face greater obstacles and prejudice. We must make sure that we share best practice on enabling women and girls to become entrepreneurs."@en1
